The refrigerated trucks in class 4 have a single interior wall structure and higher insulation than traditional trucks, allows for seamless sanitation and better temperature control. GreenPower has partnered with Perrone Robotics in order to equip the EV Star with TONY (To navigate you) autonomous vehicle systems. This will enable fleets to transition to autonomous vehicles. The AV Star can also be wirelessly charging up to 75 kW.
We had the chance to test drive the EV9 for a few hours on a local freeway and found it to be easy to drive and comfortable for long distances. The EV9 is able to suppress wind and road noise while driving on the highway. It glides effortlessly over bumps and ruts. The acceleration of the vehicle is astonishingly quick, and it features adjustable regenerative brakes to enable "one-pedal driving" simply by taking off the accelerator.
The EV9 offers a great range and can be recharged in just three hours or less at home, or by using any commercial charger. Drivers can choose between two operating modes including eco mode and sports mode. Eco mode is a great way to increase torque and cruise control, as well as handling, while sport mode increases speed. Both are a lot of fun to drive and provide an unique experience for anyone who has not driven an electric vehicle before.
In addition to the EV9, GreenPower has several other e-vehicle offerings including a multi-purpose electric mini bus called the EV Star. The EV Star is ADA compliant and can be utilized as an executive shuttle, micro-transit, transit vanpool, bus, or paratransit vehicle.
GreenPower is already producing about 10 EV Star buses a month for the Jacksonville Transit Authority, which is attempting to replace their fleet of older diesel vehicles with 100 all-electric vehicles. With the Biden Administration aiming to electrify schools across the nation, GreenPower plans on ramping production to meet the demand.
